How it works
- Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, then divide by the total weight.
- If the weights add up to less than 100%, the result is your grade so far, based only on what has been graded.
- Letter grades use the common U.S. scale: 93% and up is an A, 90–92% an A−, 87–89% a B+, and so on.
Worked examples
A full course
Homework (20%) is 92, quizzes (30%) are 85 and the midterm (50%) is 78. What is the course grade?
- 92 × 20 + 85 × 30 + 78 × 50 = 1,840 + 2,550 + 3,900 = 8,290.
- 8,290 ÷ 100 (total weight).
Answer: 82.9%, a B−
Try this examplePartway through a course
Tests (40% of the course) average 88 and homework (20%) averages 95. What is the grade so far?
- 88 × 40 + 95 × 20 = 3,520 + 1,900 = 5,420.
- Only 60% has been graded, so divide by 60.
Answer: 90.33% so far, an A−

What if my weights don't add up to 100?
That's fine. The calculator divides by the weights you entered, so it shows your current standing on the work graded so far.
Can I use points instead of percentages?
Convert each score to a percentage first (points earned ÷ points possible × 100), then enter it.
