How it works
- Your final course grade = current grade × (1 − final weight) + final exam score × final weight.
- Rearranged: score needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight.
- A result above 100% means the target can't be reached without extra credit; 0% or less means you've already secured it.
Worked examples
Aiming for an A
You have 84% and want 90%. The final is worth 25%. What do you need on it?
- Your 84% counts for 75% of the course: 84 × 0.75 = 63.
- You need 90 − 63 = 27 more points from the final.
- 27 ÷ 0.25 = 108%.
Answer: 108%: not reachable without extra credit (a B needs 68%)
Try this exampleHolding on to a B−
