How it works
- Pace = time ÷ distance, shown in minutes:seconds per kilometer or per mile.
- Finish time = distance × pace; distance = time ÷ pace.
- Race predictions use Riegel's formula: T₂ = T₁ × (D₂ ÷ D₁)^1.06.
Worked examples
10K in 55 minutes
What pace is a 10K run in 55:00?
- 55:00 = 3,300 seconds.
- 3,300 ÷ 10 km = 330 seconds per km = 5:30.
- Per mile: 330 × 1.609 = 531 s = 8:51.
Answer: 5:30 per km (8:51 per mile)
Try this exampleA marathon at 6:00 per km
How long does a marathon take at a steady 6:00 per km?
- Marathon = 42.195 km.
- 42.195 × 360 s = 15,190 s.
- 15,190 s = 4 h 13 min 10 s.
Answer: 4:13:10 (9:39 per mile)

How accurate are the race predictions?
They assume you train for the longer distance. Predictions from a 5K to a marathon are often too optimistic, so use a recent half marathon to predict a marathon.
How long is a half marathon?
21.0975 km (13.1 miles). A marathon is 42.195 km (26.2 miles).
